ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Saturday fixed the hearing of a petition seeking repatriation of former finance minister Ishaq Dar for Jan 8.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar will take up the case in Islamabad. Notices have been issued to the attorney general, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and officials of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance and others to ensure their appearance during the hearing of the case.
During the previous hearing, the top court was informed that British authorities had conditionally agreed to extradite Dar.
A federal law officer informed the judges that the UK Interior Ministry had sent a questionnaire comprising 27 questions regarding the case. “We have given the questionnaire to NAB.”
The additional attorney general said once the Pakistani government submitted its reply, the UK authorities would make a decision about the extradition of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader.
“Mr. Dar will return to Pakistan once he was assured that justice will be done. Courts in Pakistan are delivering justice but we are not sure what Mr. Dar thinks in this regard,” the chief justice remarked.
