ISLAMABAD: A team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted raid at the office of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in Islamabad and took record of the banking companies allegedly involved in the fake bank accounts case, in its possession, sources said.
The officials of the investigation agency on a tip-off learnt that the record of the banks allegedly involved in the fake accounts scam being removed, which prompted the FIA to raid the office and recover the record, reports said.
A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, on Monday directed PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to submit his replies until Dec 31 in the money laundering case.
The bench also barred the trading and transfers of the properties owned by the Omni Group and Zardari Group until a final verdict in the case.
The court gave these directions after going through the report of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which was tasked to probe the laundering of billions of rupees through fake bank accounts.
JIT report
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe into the mega money laundering scam had submitted its report to the Supreme Court.
The JIT report, comprises over 7500 pages and more than a dozen volumes, pointed out involvement of a key politician from Sindh in money-laundering through fake bank accounts, sources said.
The report submitted in the apex court also complained that the government of Sindh didn’t extend satisfactory cooperation to the investigation team.
According to sources, the report also said to be attached the evidence against Omni Group of Companies for their involvement in money-laundering.
It is pertinent to mention here that, Supreme Court had constituted a six-member joint investigation team to investigate the case.
