RAWALPINDI: Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Thursday vowed to bring revolutionary reforms in the department aimed at making train journey affordable for the common people without comprising on quality, ARY News reported.
Talking to media in Rawalpindi, the minister announced to run special low fare train named Rehman Baba Express for poor people commuting through trains.
“In my previous tenure (as minister), I initiated a similar project (of a low fare train) and then the audit revealed that it earned more than other trains for poor families traveled with their children through it,” said Rasheed.
He maintained that he has directed the department to improve the standards of the economy class of trains.
“We are making efforts to improve the facilities in the economy class too and address passengers’ complaints and I will personally check trains’ condition by disguising as a commoner if the need be,” said the minister.
Sheikh Rasheed further announced to provide Wi-Fi service and install trackers in all trains within 100 days so that the commuters and their families can track their movement.
The minister concluded his speech by saying that he believes that Railways’ labourers and officers are the department’s true strength and are fully capable of bringing it at par with international level.
